Electro plating and Anodising

Electroplating is a procces in which a metal object is coated with another type of metal protecting it. It also provides an aesthetic finish.

  • The negative electrode is the object that is to be electroplated such as an iron key
  • The positive electrode is the metal that you want to coat the object with such as brass
  • The electrolyte should be a solution of the coating metal

  • The object to be plated, such as a metal pan, is connected to the negative terminal of the power supply. A piece of copper is connected to the positive terminal. The electrolyte is coppersulfate solution. Then the power is switched on and the electroplating process begins.

anodising is the same as electroplating however anodising is just more layers of the certain metal also during this process a die can be added to change the colour making it more aestheticly pleasing, when the process is complete it is sealed with a laquer.
